Families

Three Hagges Wood-Meadow is the perfect location in which to spend quality family time: a securely fenced wood meadow with open access and an abundance of wildlife to spot.  There is a car park adjacent to the wood meadow and the York – Selby Arriva 415 bus passes  nearby so visiting couldn’t be easier!

Bring your picnics, bug pots and wild flower books and see what you can spot in this marvellous haven. Dogs are also welcome if kept on a short lead.  Sun protection is essential during good weather, and wet weather gear at other times; until the trees grow  they offer no shade or cover.

Please note: there is an unfenced pond at the far end of the wood meadow; children need to be supervised at all times. (However, if you don’t mention the pond and you stay within the near half of the wood meadow, children will be oblivious to its existence!)

Tea in the Meadow on Saturday 18 July from 3pm

An organised, child friendly event for all ages so do bring along your family, friends, neighbours and grandchildren plus picnic, blankets  and deckchairs. Enjoy a relaxing but fascinating afternoon in the wood meadow; what will you spot?

On other days throughout the year you are welcome to organise your own family or children’s event in the wood meadow; however, please ensure that you bring an adequate number of adults to supervise your group.

Suggestions for self-guided visits include: ‘Bug and Butterfly’ parties or, for older children, perhaps a spot of pond dipping.

Groups are limited to 30 children in order to maintain the peace of the wood meadow habitat and ensure everybody’s  safety.  If bringing a group please advise us in advance by emailing louise@haggewoodstrust.co.uk.  Thank you.

Establish a Family Tradition for the Next Generation

An excellent way to commemorate an enjoyable visit to the wood meadow would be to invest  in a ‘Square Share’ for your family by becoming a Friend of Hagge Woods  Trust. By sponsoring a specific square you would be supporting the wood meadow and securing it for future generations to enjoy. Are you:

  • Stuck for birthday present ideas for a budding botanist who doesn’t want binoculars again?
  • Keen to avoid plastic toys?
  • Aware of the importance of protecting the environment for the next generation?

A Square Share is the perfect gift for you and your loved ones. We would issue a certificate showing the coordinates of your square(s), enabling you to locate the precise spot; perhaps a one off family picnic would become an annual event continued by future generations, all thanks to your generosity now.
